Linking Verb

The linking verb "to be" has no infinitive. The table below lists its present tense forms.

"I am" - زٌه یٌم

"he is" - دَی دئ

"she is" - دا دَه

"they are" - دُوی دى

The negative form is produced by adding the stressed negative particle "not" - ná نَه   before the linking verb:

"I am not" - زٌه نَه یٌم

"They are not" - دُوی نَه دى

The past tense forms of the linking verb are produced in the following way:

the negative form is produced by adding the stressed negative particle "not" - ná نه before the linking verb:

"I was not" - زٌه نَه وٌم

The future forms of the linking verb are produced by adding the

particle بٌه to the present forms:

The negative form is produced by adding the stressed negative particle "not" - [ná] نَه   before the linking verb:

"I will not be " - زٌه بٌه نَه یٌم

The verb شْتَه can be translated into English as "there is":

"Is there a tape recorder in your house?" - سْتا پٌه کُور کی ټیپ ریکاردَر شْتَه ؟

The plural can be formed by adding the third person linking verb:

"There are many streets in our city." - زْمُوږ پٌه ښار کی ډېری کُوڅې شْتَه دى .
