Dari has a variety of compound verbs. Compound verbs are formed from simple verbs combined with nouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, and so forth.
The simple verbs most widely used to form compounds are as follows:
"to do, to make" کردن
"to become" شدن
"to give" دادن
"to take" گرفتن
"to come" آمدن
"to bring" آوردن
"to strike" زدن
Every Compound verb has a nominal element and a verbal element.
The nominal element expresses the meaning of the verb:
"to move" حرکت کردن
"to report" گزارش دادن
"to raise, to lift" بلند نمودن
"to boil" جوش آمدن
"to disappear" گم شدن
"to come back" بر گشتن
"to remove" بر داشتن
"to lose, to give up" از دست دادن
In compound verbs, the conjugational endings and prefixes as well as the negative prefix are added to the verbal element:
"We live" زندگی می کنیم
"I didn't find" پیدا نکردم
"He came back" پس آمد
"It has not been fulfilled" اجرا نشده است
"They will not send" روان نخواهند کرد
Sometimes, especially in informal speech, the prefix می mii as well as the negative prefix نه na can be added to the nominal part (represented by the prefixes برbar or در dar) of a compound verb, rather than to the verbal element:
"They come in" می در آیند
"He (she) removes" می بر دارد
