The present stem of a verb is used to construct the forms of the present tense, the present subjunctive, the future, and the imperative, as well as the present participle.
The present stem is formed by cutting off the تن, یدن or دن endings (in regular verbs):
"to cut" بر - بریدن
"to bring" آور - آوردن
"to receive" رس - رسیدن
For many common verbs, the present stem is irregular and must be learned individually:
"to see" بین - دیدن
"to go" رو - رفتن
"to have" دار - داشتن
"to give" ده - دادن
"to be" باش - بودن
