Causative

The main meaning of the causative verb form is "make (force) somebody (something) do something". In Dari, this concept can be expressed by a single verb.

The causative is formed by the addition of آندن aandan or آنیدن aanidan to the present stem of some verbs (آ alef loses its madda):

"to transmit, to make arrive" (from رسیدن "to arrive") رساندن

"to feed, to make eat" (from خوردن "to eat") خوراندن

Verbs in the causative form are always regular.

These verbs are also conjugated by adding the personal endings to the past stem or the present stem. They may have all the normal verb forms:

"I made him (her) arrive" من او را رساندم.

"The mother feeds her son" مادر پسر را میخوراند.

"They will force him to run a lotاو را بسیار خواهند دواند.

The negative is formed by adding the prefix نه na "not" to the causative forms:

"Don't make him (her) arrive" او را نرسانید

"I don't cause to run" نمیدوانم
