A verb is a word that denotes an action or the state of the subject.
Verbs in Hindi are divided into two large classes: transitive and intransitive. Intransitive verbs are verbs expressing an action which cannot have any direct object. Transitive verbs are those verbs which require a direct object.
The difference between these two verb classes plays a much more important role in Hindi than it does in English. For example, it determines the sentence construction in the perfect tenses, which is different for transitive and intransitive verbs.
