Interrogative Pronouns

The interrogative pronouns are کون kaun 'who' and کیا kyaa 'what'. Both pronouns inflect for case and number in the following way:

Singular

 Plural

Direct

کیا kyaa 'what?', کون kaun 'who?'

کیا kyaa, کون kaun

Oblique

کس kis

 کن kin

In the plural, an interrogative pronoun may be reduplicated in order to emphasize plurality:

میز پر کیا کیا چیزیں ھیں ؟

mez par kyaa kyaa ciizeN haiN

'what (literally: 'what what') things are there on the table?'

اس بس میں کون کون تھا ؟

us bas meN kaun kaun thaa?

'who (literally: 'who who') was in that bus?'.
