Coordinating conjunctions join coordinate clauses in compound sentences, uniform parts in simple sentences, uniform subordinate clauses in complex sentences, and independent sentences. (See also Syntax).
Simple Conjunctions
1. The conjunction "and" - [aw] اَو :
ما ډُوډۍ وُخْوَړٌلَه اَو وْرُوسْتَه می لٌږ څٌه خُوب وُکْړ .
"I had dinner and then slept a little."
زْما مَلْگٌرَی پٌه کٌلی کی اُوسى اَو زْما وْرُور هَم هَلْتَه اُوسى .
"My friend lives in the village and my brother also lives there."
2. The conjunction "or" - [yaa] یا :
"Give me an apple or a pear." - مَڼَه یا ناک راکه .
3. The conjunction "or" - [ka] کَه :
"Is he working today or not?" - نٌن دَی کار کَوى کَه نَه ؟
4. The conjunction "but" - [lekÁn] لکن :
مُوږ غُوښْتٌل چی هَوا خُورى وُکْړُو لِکٌن باران اُورېدٌه .
"We wanted to walk but it was raining."
5. The conjunction "but" - [magár] مَگَر :
"The son went to the shop but it was closed." - زُوی دُکان تَه وْلاړ مَگَر هَغَه وُتَړٌل شُو .
Paired Conjunctions:
1. The conjunction "not only …but"- [na yawaázi…bálke] نَه یوازى ... بَلْکې :
دَغَه هَلٌک نَه یوازی زْما خْپٌل بَلْکی زْما مَلْگٌرَی هَم دئ .
"This man is not only my relative but also my friend."
2. The conjunction "either …or" - [yaa …yaa] یا...یا :
"We will either go home or to the tea house." -مُوږ بٌه یا کُور تَه یا چای خانې تَه ڂُو .
3. The conjunction "both …and" - [ham…ham] هَم...هَم :
"Both my son and my daughter study." - زْما زُوی هَم اَو لُور هَم سَبَق وایى .
4. The conjunction "neither…nor" - [na…na] نَه ...نَه :
"Neither Grandfather nor Father cannot read." - نَه نیکٌه نَه پْلار لْوَسْتٌلای نَه شى .
