Broken Plurals

The broken plural (جَمْعُ التَّكْسيرِ) is produced by changing the form of the singular:

كِتابٌ  -  كُتُبٌ (book-books)

أُسْتاذٌ  -  أَساتِذَةٌ (teacher-teachers)

The change can be made by:

1. adding letters: سَهْمٌ  -  أَسْهامٌ (arrow - arrows)
2. changing letters: حِمارٌ  -  حَميرٌ (donkey - donkeys)
3. changing the short vowels: أَسَدٌ  -  أُسْدٌ (lion - lions)
4. some combination of the above.
