A conjunction is a part of speech used to connect words or clauses. The main Urdu conjunctions are:
اور
aur 'and
یا
yaa 'or'
...یا ...یا
yaa... yaa... 'either... or...'
...نہ ...نہ
na... na... 'neither... nor...'
پر
par 'but'
لیکن
lekin 'but'
مگر
magar 'but'
ھی
hii 'namely'
The following conjunctions are used to introduce subordinate clauses in compound sentences:
کہ
ki 'that'
تاکہ
taaki 'so that, in order that'
اگر
agar 'if'
چاھے
caahe 'even though'
جوکہ
joki 'as'
کیوں کہ
kyoNki 'because'
