Subordinating Conjunctions

Subordinating conjunctions are used to introduce a subordinate clause.

The subordinating conjunctions are as follows:

"that" که

"in order that" تا که

"as long as" تا

"if" اگر

"if" چنانچه

"if" هر گاه

"unless" مگر

"without this / that" بدون اینکه

"in spite of the fact that" با این که

"although" گر چه

"because" زیرا

"because" چونکه

"so…that…"

Please notice that the conjunction چونکه) چون که) "because" is not used at the beginning of a sentence. The conjunction چون "because" is used instead.

Conjunctions that have the same meaning are used interchangeably:

"Said that was good."

"If I were rich."

"Although it was late she (he) came."

"I didn't go because it was late."

"She (he) became so angry that she (he) couldn't speak."
