The interrogative pronouns are कौन kaun 'who' and क्या kyaa 'what'. The latter can be also used as a pronominal adjective.
These pronouns have the same forms of the oblique case: किस kis for the singular number and किन kin - for the plural. However, the form किन kin is usually used only by क्या kyaa in the function of the pronominal adjective. When it is necessary to say, for example, 'among what (plural)', the interrogative pronoun क्या kyaa is replaced by the pronominal adjective of the same form with the word चीज़ ciiz 'thing': किन चीज़ों में kin ciizoN meN 'among what things'.
In the plural, an interrogative pronoun may be reduplicated in order to emphasize plurality:
Ex: कमरे में कौन कौन है?
kamre meN kaun kaun hai?
'Who (literally: 'who who') is in the room?'
