Interjections

An interjection is a word or expression which gives added emotional emphasis in speech. In print an interjection will most likely be followed by an exclamation mark. Interjections can express awe, disgust, pain, and joy. Below are several common Polish interjections with examples of how to use them in a sentence:

Ach! /O!
joy; awe; surprise
Ach, jak tu ł adnie.
(Oh, how beautiful it is here!)
Tfu!
disgust
Fu, jak tu smierdzi!
(Yuck, how it stinks here!)
Och!
Complaint
Och, jak mi zimno!
(Oh, I'm so cold!)
