Selecting Learned Vocab

The Select Learned Vocab screen lets you choose which learned vocab items you want to use in the Refresh activity. It appears when you choose Selected Vocab as your Refresh option.

To use the Select Learned Vocab screen:

1. Consult the table for a list of the learned vocab items that are available to refresh. Each row will show the known language and learning language for a vocab item, along with its status as fresh or stale. (Archived vocab items are not shown, because they cannot be used in the Refresh activity.) You can {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} beside any word or phrase with sound to play the sound.{{^web}} Tap on any column heading to change how the information in the table is sorted.{{/web}}
2. {{#web}}Click{{/web}}{{^web}}Tap{{/web}} anywhere in a row to display more details about a learned vocab item. If the vocab item has hints, a comment, or a transliteration, that information will appear below the text.{{#phone}} If any of the information is truncated, tap Show More to display the complete version.{{/phone}} The icon will also appear if the vocab item has an image.{{#web}} If a vocab item does not have any of these features, its row will not be clickable.{{/web}}

3. To find a specific learned vocab item or type of vocab item, do any of the following:
• {{#web}}Click{{/web}}{{^web}}Tap{{/web}} and select the types of vocab items you want shown.
• {{#phone}}Tap to show the Search field. {{/phone}}Type the text you want to find in the Search field and {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} {{#web}}{{/web}}{{#phone}}{{/phone}}{{#web}} or press the Enter key{{/web}}.{{^phone}} If necessary, you can {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} to use the virtual keyboard while you type.{{/phone}} {{#web}}Click{{/web}}{{^web}}Tap{{/web}} {{#web}}{{/web}}{{#phone}}{{/phone}} to clear the search and return to the full list of vocab items when needed. Note: Searches are not case-sensitive.
• {{#web}}Click{{/web}}{{^web}}Tap{{/web}} any column heading to change how the information in the table is sorted.

4. To search for specific learned vocab items, use the menus and fields on the screen to enter your search criteria, then tap . The screen will be updated to show only vocab items that meet all of your criteria. The following search options are available:
• The Search term menu allows you to enter all or part of the word or phrase you want to find. You can search for learning language terms or their known language meanings. Searches are not case-sensitive, but are sensitive to diacritics, accent marks, and other special characters in languages that use them. If necessary, you can tap to display the virtual keyboard to help you type any special characters used in the word or phrase.
• The Search in menu allows you to indicate the language of your search term. By default, this menu will be set to Both Languages, which will search both the known language and the learning language. If you want to narrow the search to a single language, choose the name of the known language or the learning language instead. If you choose one of these settings, be sure that the search term you have typed is in the correct language.
• The Status menu allows you to search for learned vocab items based on whether they are fresh or stale. By default, this menu will be set to Any, which will find vocab items with any status. To limit the search results to a particular status, you can choose Fresh or Stale instead. You can use these options along with a search term to find only instances of that term with the selected status, or you can run a search without a search term to find all learned vocab items with the selected status.
• When you are ready to clear your search results, tap beside the Search field.

5. Mark the checkboxes beside the learned vocab items you want to refresh. You can select as many fresh or stale vocab items as you choose. To select all the learned vocab items on the screen at once, mark the checkbox in the top heading.

6. Tap and hold a vocab item to select it, then tap other vocab items to select them as well. You can select as many fresh or stale vocab items as you choose.

7. When have selected all the vocab items you want to use, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} Refresh{{#phone}} at the top of the screen{{/phone}} to start the Refresh activity.{{#phone}} The number beside the button will tell you how many vocab items have been selected.{{/phone}}
