Past Participles

The past participle is a verbal form generally used as the second element in a compound tense.

Ils sont allés au cinema. They went to the movies. (passé composé)

The past participle can also be used as: an adjective:

la table est couvert de papiers (the table is covered in papers)

Or a noun:

un permis de conduire (driver's license)
