Declarative Sentences (Statements)

Declarative sentences usually describe an action or event, or give some information. In a declarative sentence, the subject and the predicate have normal word order: The subject precedes the predicate:

Son frère est bon pianiste.
(Her brother is a good pianist.)

Her brother is the subject: is a good pianist is the predicate.

Van Gogh est un peintre connu.
(Van Gogh is a known painter.)

Van Gogh is the subject; is a painter is the predicate.
